2.5 v6 exhaust back box
Thinking ahead of my next MOT in March, the back box whilst still sound is starting to de-laminate and look a bit sorry for itself, so putting aside some pennies over the next couple of months to deal with it. The old girl will be ten by the next MOT so whilst she is in amazing condition I just cannot justify going all out on a SS cat back so will probably just go with a standard replacement, Rimmers have it but I have also seen it for at least half that elsewhere, has anyone found a good/cheap/reliable source for Rover exhaust parts?
Cheers, ceb |

Go to your local Unipart trade counter, I just bought a replacement back box from them, and it fit very well. They'll quote you about £90, once you make a sucking noise through your teeth and ask nicely for the best trade price it will drop to £60 or so!! At least it does in Grimsby
That's assuming you're self fitting it, you'll need to cut the pipe to the original in the right place as the whole exhaust is in one piece! Regards Paul |

Original back boxes can be hard to get.
Also most of the patern part ones don't last as long as the originals as they have less skins. Mine has been rotting for years but a spray of heatproof silver paint stopped the rot from the outside and it keeps on going.

Why don't you try ebay and look for someone selling a second hand powerflow backbox. It doesn't have to be a rover backbox. I used an impreza ss system on my 190 tourer and that worked fine.

Got a reply.
Good afternoon Sir WCG000301 is listed for the saloon 190 and it is an OE supplied by XPart. Looking at the history of the part on our system it does appear to have only become available in June 2010 as we first received stock that month. Regards Gary Reading this would OE mean Original Equiptment? seems it is O.E.M. stands for Original Equipment Manufactured. This means that OEM Ford parts are manufactured by Ford itself, Chevrolet parts are manufactured by Chevrolet, Toyota parts by Toyota, BMW parts by BMW and so on. The terms O.E.S. and OE are also used; these mean Original Equipment Supplied and Original Equipment, respectively. While in many cases, OEM and OES mean the same, OE is more general referring to any part that came as original equipment on the car. Some of OE car parts and components are not actually made by the car manufacturer but are purchased and assembled by the automakers to create a vehicle.

I had a very difficult time finding an OEM back box for my V6 Tourer. When the original one perforated, first I had fitted a Walker aftermarket unit as a replacement. This was headache-inducing boomy - the refinement of the car was completely lost. After a few days this came off and I got my money back. Then I had a Bosal fitted, which I was told was the best aftermarket unit. It was better, though still boomy, especially at 2000 rpm, and not really acceptable. The only Bosal available was intended for the saloon and so sat a little too far forward on the Tourer. I kept this on the car for some weeks. At the end of that period the n/s rear apron was showing signs of warpage caused by the hot exhaust gases.
Then today... at long last I found a garage who had a good second hand original equipment back box! I had it fitted. The difference is amazing! I have got my old car back. For me, the silence means its back to being a Rover again. I am delighted! My advice... if you want to retain the silence and refinement of your Rover (not everyone does I know; some prefer 'sports' exhausts...), then keep the original exhaust back box on, patch it, preen it, do whatever you can to keep it... that is until you can get another OEM unit. The exhaust back box has a huge effect on the quality of the driving experience. None of the aftermarket units are up to scratch. So I now have a Bosal back box for a V6 saloon, only a few weeks old, and anyone who wants it and can collect it, can have it for free. Otherwise in a week or two it's going on the tip.
