Is This Real?
Surfing for MGR stuff I came across this image of the facelift bodywork.
Now I think it's impossible to get a fit like this from the actual production panels. To my eye they don't have the same edge curvature and never will fit like this. My bonnet is a good 10mm above the bumper moulding (no I haven't tried to lift it as yet). So has anybody managed to get this quality of fit or is this image a figment of MGR's artistic licence? TC |

I'd agree with Lates, a bit of artistic lisence used in that image. Think of it more of an "ideal" than of actual reality...

As much as reality proves otherwise, I think we all know the image is what MGR would have wanted us all to have. A pitty the panel fittings didn't quite live up to expectations but we also know that with a bit of DIY-tweaking one can accomplish something that seemed to be out-of-reach on the production line.

I must admit, my ZT had a scarily large gap between the bonnet and grille, but while having the bumper off recently I decided to spend a bit of time refitting it trying to lessen the gap. I adjusted the bonnet slightly just to get it to sit in the middle of the wings and lifted the bumper mounts slightly with washers etc.. (you can't see them) and it has a really nice snug fit now, well chuffed. Can take a bit of time to do, but well worth it IMO.

I'd like to have a go with mine, but there's so much other stuff waiting. I'd like to do a full Waxoyl treatment this summer and service the alloys as well. Anyway, I suspect a hot summer is best to tackle the panel refitting. It's clear that the bonnet and bumper were not really made to fit properly and a little warping is required. A warm summer should allow the bumper moulding to be shaped better using the bolts/washers.
