Is oil a bit like cornflakes?
I have never changed the oil on a car before but am about to do so on my new 75. I've bought the Pela pump (every day's like Christmas at the moment) but am shocked how expensive oil is.
So for example is this Halfords branded oil http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...sageParam=6.30 probably made by the same people that make Mobil, Castrol etc? Or where can I get reasonably priced but good quality oil? |

According to the handbook, I should be using 5w/30, 5w/40 or 0w/40 and not 10w/40. Is it actually Ok to use 10W/40?
Halfords maybe expensive but this seems good value. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...-OILS-M-1#dtab Last edited by bobthebuilder; 18th February 2010 at 21:41.. Reason: number wrong |

put 10w40 in mine - to be honest it will be a short drain interval as the oil i have put in is being used to clean and flush the system and will be changed in the next few months

Please make sure you cover the alternator with rag before changing the oil filter. Spilt oil in the altternator will kill it.

I use 5w/40 Full Synth, but it's expensive.
A good 10w/40 should be fine though. |

I wonder why MGR didn't include 10W/40 in the list of oils to use? It's thicker when cold than those recommended. Maybe it was a cold starting thing.
