Default Automatic knob change

Hi experts
I want to change an automatic gear knob. My Rover is a 1999 Celeste (German ). I have read a couple of how to articles that suggest some extreme gut ripping effort and have looked at the Haynes manual too.

Are all R75 automatic gear knobs the same and can I change my old leather one for the nice walnut , chrome and leather one I want to replace it with??
I have attached 2 photos:
One of the existing gear knob, where it sits with the leather skirting pulled back revealing what the top between the knob and the shaft look like.
And, another pic of the new knob which has a long white plastic like material coming to a square end with various fluting and such.
The knob is identical to the old one at the top with the button and such and the same dimensions and was in an original Rover 75 package.
Can I change it and any tips.

They should just be a straight swap if it is a MGR auto knob.
I did change mine to leather and Chrome, couldn't get the Light oak one I wanted.
If you follow the threads it is quite simple if very tight so watch your nose, don't lean face over top of it or you give yourself a Thump!

Default ??? couple more nagging questions

Thanks chaps
I assume that it is the same stalk and fit, (it is a genuine MGR part) and that by some almighty tugging effort, nose aside, one can remove the old one and simply put the new one back in its place.
I also assume that it will require some extra hard downward force to reinsert it?.
How hard is it to pull out? I put it in neutral and exerted a fair bit of pressure but it didn't budge.
Should I just jank like hell until it gives???

In the URL Mike referred to I see it is a change of the knob from a BMW stalk to a MGR stalk.
The stalk that is replacing it (white plastic) is the same as the one I have.

Is that also an option, should I try and just replace the knob by not ripping it all out but by removing the switch and replacing it. Or his just a special case for BMWs knob change and the how to pictures ??

The MGR one is a straight swap, its just the BMW ones that have a Slightly different fitting.
The Plastic stem on yours looks perfect for our cars. Its not hard to re Insert just a firm push down and its in, just getting it out can be a fun job as does require a real hard tug, you can't break it by pulling to hard upwards.
