Default cdt to cdti

Hi, Ther is a guy at a garage who's telling me he could de-restrict my cdt to 131 bhp for £100. Should I trust him? Thanks

the 116 engine is not restricted its the ecu map that is different form the 131 models...a remap for £100 seems very cheap...to cheap...if you havn't already got one, a rover ron synergy 2 will give you 145 bhp and is removable/controlable

Go for the Ronbox, best bit of kit you can get and fully reversible.

I think that if the Ronbox is put on it's max tuner setting (10) and left like that for years, you may well be right, long term.

But why go to the maximum? I run mine (now 140K) with the tuner set on three (3) and it is fine.

What's the low speed acceleration like on setting 3 ?

Have you tried the other settings in comparison?

I must admit I have never gone below setting 4....

Hi Dragrad.

I tried all the settings except 10 when I first installed it

But over a period of time I find that MAF on one or turned off, and the tuner on 3 is about right.

As for low down performance from a standing start, I get wheel spin in 1st and 2nd if I am too heavy footed, if the road is wet I have to be very light footed.

I find the trick with a diesel is too move the pedal in time with the cars pick-up speed, if you just shove it to the floor all you do is waste fuel, blow out black smoke, and even cause the car to hiccup at times. being ultra smooth seems to work best.

*note* My car had a new turbo fitted last December, that may be having a bearing on the way the car performs..

Even my lil nonturbo ZX diesel auto can be driven quite quickly once you get the hang of it. In fact, thinking about it, it was very good car to learn on really.. . (driving a diesel that is)..

Can I ask what your "feeling" is based on?

The reason I ask is that on my 150000 miler I have a Ronbox, a pre-Synergy TU3b, and have had it on for 50000-60000 miles, on max setting for most of the time, with a Ron's Mafam on mid setting. Without wishing to tempt fate, have had no issues whatever. Just a much better-performing car.

I think that 135,000 miles of heavy driving rushing from one end of country to other, was NOT the cause of my Injectors going.
Nothing to do with remap or Ron Box IMHO.
Still worth having regardless, first thing that has needed doing from new (other than wear and tear and service items).
