Default 190 clutch and cambelt

Hi All

I purchased a 2001 ZT-T a week ago, I test drove it at the garage the clutch bit was very high biting at the top 2cm. When I said to the salesman he said they are all like it and its fine, Also it has done 71000 with no cam belt change again he told me they don't need changing until 90000 and not at 6 years old, I needed the car in a hurry so I took his word for it and purchased the car.

Can the forum tell me if he is right or if I am and with him being a trader can I insist he puts it right.

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,
Cambelts should definitely be changed at six years or 90000 miles whichever comes first.
Clutch does not seem right to me - it's certainly not normal.
Regards, Tony.

Tony is correct, 6 years OR 90,00 miles which ever comes sooner.

The ZT clutch is no different to any other car. you could try driving up a hill in a high ish gear and see if it slips. most common faults is the hydraulic side, which can fail.

I'm fairly non-technical, but I would suspect from your description that it's the mechanics of the clutch rather than hydraulics and probably a worn out plate.

Hi thanks for the help,
It is not slipping when you use high gears on a hill, so I take it that the garage will have no choice but to do the belt and replace the clutch as I want to keep the car.
