Default Alternator/battery…dead car

Had charge fault come up on dash, and battery sign… took battery off to charge, got to work and back, and had to recharge over night… today, abs light, brake fail light, airbag light, and something at topleft of instruments never seen before came on… half way home, radio off… on throttle, pop noises through speakers, car barely moving, then died turning into crescent , im assuming alternator is shot, as is battery…. The sat nav in boots keeps making rapid clicking noises spitting disc in and out as well, got it booked in to get a test a d new alternator but cant drive it now … well peeved

Hi Steve,

Charge your battery externally for 36 hours to ensure full charge then start the engine and observe the charging voltage (either with a multimeter across the battery terminals or using the instrument pack diagnostics). You're looking for a reading of between 13.0 and 14.5 v. That will tell you if your alternator's ok without running up a garage bill.

Simon

PS Did you ever solve your Superlocking problem?

If you still have your diesel it will be the alternator but you can just change the module on the back of it in situ in about 30 mins which usually cures it
