coolant leak- big trouble?
Took my 75 to a main dealer garage (Ford) where I bought it, to have coolant changed for winter. Job poorly done system not bled, air in system.
Took back car, pressure tested it, blew out air, topped up said A ok. Next day, coolant leak under car. (See pic 1) Nasty looking source of leak (See pic 2) This looks like a serious job, anyone with experriance care to chip in. Thanks, Kevin. http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/9979/img0002cx0.jpg ttp://img84.imageshack.us/img84/42/img0009pt1.jpg Last edited by KLM; 23rd December 2008 at 19:33.. |

It could be the inlet manifold gasket gone.
Not that difficult to do. Does it leak only when cold? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FREELANDER-1-8...2em118Q2el1247 Last edited by orac; 23rd December 2008 at 20:17.. |

Pressure Relief Thermostat. The yellow plastic gizmo, lower right in the first photo. Your engine doesn't have the conventional thermostat. This one operates on the differential pressure created by hot coolant.
The leak does appear to be from the block area suggesting that the inlet manifold gasket may have failed (a common problem on the K18). I guess they may have ruptured it doing the pressure test, though why that was done is obscure. TC |

The coolant drops in your 2nd pic don't look to be very strong in colour.
Should be 50% OAT Red Longlife antifreeze in these engines. So many Garages put the cheaper Green or Blue stuff in which was not recommended by MGR

Not necessarily. A Ford dealership currently have ownership over a previous MG-Rover garage in my local town. The staff are the same as they were when they were an MG-Rover franchise and as such are very knowledgeable on such cars.
