Another CDTi Cooling Fan Problem
My car is an 04 plate car with a three speed fan. Since I purchased the car the cooling fan has never worked even if the AC is switched on. I bought a brush set and fitted them yesterday. Success fan now runs.......all the time at low speed and for about half a min after the key is taken out!!!
I dismantled the motor again to make sure I han't shorted anything, all good. I checked all the relays, again all in good working order. I'm now stuck for ideas, any suggestions welcome. Cheers, Graham. |

Seems the only thing you haven't checked is the printed circuit board - not that you can check them that easily. It's often a process of elimination.
It's a weak part of the diesel system, so a chat about that may be worthwhile. You can get boards fixed by FrenchMike here on the forum. TC |

This is when the ac/heating is off. When the a.c. is you hear the fan sound change, press econ it slows down again.

Thanks for your reply Graham. I'm afraid I need more clarification:
Do you mean that you've pressed the 'OFF' button on the top row, far left hand side? Quote:

Sorry, yes when I have pressed the ATC off button and the engine coolant temp is cold the fan is running on low speed.
When you press the auto button, the fan speed increases. Press the econ button and the fans speed reduces. |

Yeah, bang on 9 o'clock. When I put the coolant temp on the trip display it is always around 82 to 85 degrees C.

Thanks for all the information Graham. Well, with the air. con./heating in 'ECON' mode and a coolant temperature in the eighties the radiator fan should not be running. It does indeed sound as if your printed circuit board has developed a fault.
Second-hand spares are very thin on the ground but, as already mentioned, FrenchMike has in the past successfully repaired them for members. This does involve you sending it to France though! Oh, just one thing; your ECM isn't sitting in any water is it? Simon
