Thanks to AndyN01
I just want to thank Andy for trying to do my drop links today! In the end they beat us and we couldn't get them off, but we still managed to do my airbag, so not a total loss! Was very happy on the way home not to have it blinking at me all the time!
Another small step Thank you and see you at the Nano! |

It was frustrating not being able to do the drop links. Whoever put them on hadn't cut off the top 7mm of thread so it was impossible to get a spanner in there .
Open ended couldn't get the angle and no gap for a ring spanner to drop over the top. I wonder how they did them up so tight . I do have obstruction ring spanners but couldn't use them. I don't have any Crows Foot spanners - guess they'll be on the shopping list soon . Pleased that our seat removal and swapping out of the impact sensor got a good result. Take care. See you in a couple of weeks. Andy. |

Get your self to a car boot sale look for 14mm15mm & 17mm or AF equivalent as they fit better sometimes so always worth having in your tool box. Look for short stubby ones then grind the round edges off them they will then fit into the top cup the drop link fits into. Once you have undone the bottom nut of the drop link which is straight forward, use two open ended spanner ground down use one in the cup and the other on the flat of the drop link, turn the flat while the cup one grip the nut. After a few turns you will be able to get an hack saw in the gap and cut through the drop link thread, you will not need to cut all the way through half way will be enough, then pull the drop link upwards and out it will come.

Thanks.
I thought about angle grinding them out but didn't have access to a suitably small angle grinder . I'm not sure the 12" one my neighbour has would have fitted........ Time for a car boot - cheers arctic. I had looked at your thread - honest - and thought I had enough spanners . I'm bound to have to do this for myself sooner rather than later so watch this space. Cheers all. Andy |
