Default IPK Console - ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATION FAULT

Hi everybody. Just a quick one (he says lol

I own and run a cdt facelift tourer connie and on inserting the key and turning on the ignition everything lights up etc and the engine light LED goes out when the engine has started, as expected. My dash is the type with the IPK.

My mate has the mk1, same spec car on 02 plate with exactly same dash console as mine. But when you turn the ignition on, no EML illumination. this is on the lower set of light symbols ( fourth from right on top row of LEDS) is the engine management light. I have checked for faults stored via obd2 port, all clear. If i do a self test of the dash, everything works and the EML ILLUMINATES! So, my question is, why do you think the EML is not coming on when key is turned to position 1 and then started? Please help as I am stumped on this one

All perfectly normal - the EML doesn't come on as a self check when you turn the key on the earlier cars.

As they used to say in the advert: Relax, it's a Rover.
