Default Spring Advice

The tourer just failed the mot on a broken rear spring , track rod ball joint and 2 holes in the sill not bad for 188k and 16 yrs old

Now both rear springs were replaced 3 yrs and 30,000 miles ago so do I change both or just the 1?

PS self leveling suspension fitted so their not standard springs

Thanks

I always try to replace such items in pairs but it’s an old car so it’s your call.

Chances are though the other spring will break soon.

Hi Scott, I had a front spring 'go' in September last year when getting it out after a summer of SORN. Managed to drive it 60 miles and took it for repair next day. Only had one spring and top mount strut replaced. Got it back next day. So far, so good, though it's back on SORN again until March 1st. I have read elsewhere on here that they do break quite often when left stationary for long times. I wasn't advised to have both sides replaced at the time and at £188 wouldn't have really wanted to do with a 17yr old anyway. This may not answer your question, but you have my sympathy! Ray

Always replace in pairs as the other side is just as old as the ones that broken and may go again....
