Default New one on me. Boot leak.

Hi all.

New leak in boot see fotoes. Done 7 different leaks before and with freelancers help i posted this a while back.

https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...d.php?t=251938

So this is what iv found yesterday. Fotoes are taken from inside of boot (As if I was sitting on th spare wheel) facing th back wall were th lights are. Carpet and panel removed. So th big question is. As any one had this one and what was there cure. Red felt tip arrows showing water coming through th o/s inner and outer bulk head. Collecting behind th wires and then off down to th spare tyre well.

My light cluster leaks before have taken a different route.???

Any ideas.

Hi.
I had a similar leak a while back. It was entering near the boot catch area. It turned out to be the boot seal. It had a little cut in it and the water got in and ran through the inside of the boot seal and out of a hole at the bottom near the boot catch. If you look at the boot seal they have little holes in them so they squash the air out when you close the boot lid. The little air holes face inward to the boot. Hope that made sense...

Hi Billy.

Thanks for that and yes that did make sense. My boot seal whilst old and not at its best is dry on th inside. Th water isn't coming in near th boot latch as th boot latch area is also dry. But i'm going to put new gaskets around th light cluster and see what happens. It has been possibly 5 years or more since they were last out..

Cheers

Phil

I battled leaks for 18 months and finally solved them. I had several similar to yours and solved them by removing all the trim off the boot lid (inside and out). I put silicone in every fitting from the number plate surround to the strip holding the plate lights. One bit of evidence for this area is the 3 bolts holding the boot latch to the lid. The lower of the 3 was white with corrosion and when I removed the lid lining there was a white blotch which matched up with the corroded bolt.
I could go on about all the other areas I dealt with but initially I think you should look at the lid.

Thanks for your post. ill give that a investigation too. Because is it coming out of th left side (between th iner and outer panel) and not down th middle below th latch is a bit confusing though. I put in kitchen roll in to latch catch though to see if it leaves a mark.

Cheers Phil

Hi Eddie.

No not yet but when I do no doubt ill use th magic potion. Great results in th past and saved loads of time not having to strip it all out. Ie, lower window clips sealed, air vents, body seam to name but a few. All cured with just one attempt. Iv taken off side light cluster out just to check and glued gasket but it hasn't rained lately so I don't know if its had any effect.

http://www.captaintolley.com/ excellent stuff..

Boot leak update.

Took boot seal off. Cleaned old sealant out that had been used around th bottom edge. Put a smear of grease on th lip all round, as it was starting to rust on th bottom run (boot latch area). Noticed were th ingress had washed th panel. Put it back together and waited. Didn't use any sealant and... it rained in th same place.

So I thought ill buy new boot seal. 50 odd quid . So then I had another thought. Iv got a 1/4 of tub left of Captain Trolleys creeping crack cure. So nothing lost I gave it a liberal doss threw th air holes down th sides and along th bottom vent holes. Obviously you carnt see wear you are applying so used more than usual just in case.

Rained hard here th last 2 days and theres not a drop in th boot. .

So CTCCC as done it again.

Default Rover 75 leaks

Just bought a 75 se contemporary and its WET WET WET inside so have taken out the whole interior, seats, boot trims and all sound deadening and carpets

Leaks found so far are
1 Rear lights- both baskets replaced and now not leaking.
2 side wing trim bolts 2 off leaking - fixed.
3 New boot seal arrived today so that will be fitted this weekend.

4 still dripping from Below parcel shelf onto rear wheel arches. - not fixed.
I have brought some Captain tolleys stuff but not applied yet.
Just cleaned out the NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- from under the lower rear window trim and around all the rear window trim ready for the captain trolleys stuff, the clips all look ok under the lower seal
Also the vertical metal seams at both corners of the boot area directly below the rear window in the Chanel for the water to drain from have black mound on them and don’t look all that well finished, will apply some tolleys and sealant if needs be.

Any other areas I should be looking at?

Cabin carpet is drying out, the foam backing stuff is a nightmare to dry, I am using towels pressed onto it to soak the water out, any other ideas?

Boot carpet dry and clean now, wooden support panel replaced, side boot trims all clean and dry and seats all cleaned ready to go back in but loathed to do this until all the leaks are sealed!

Jeez!

You have identified all the usual culprits. The boot vents are the only others for which you will need to take the bumper off to do it right.

It is an easy enough job and plenty of information on how to do it.
