Default Anyone up on Adobe Illustrator?

Does anyone know if its possible to set the distance between two objects accurately without trying to measure up against the on screen rulers? Needs to be accurate enough down to 32nd's of an inch.

Can the grid function be utilised or another way?

Thanks

Select the line tool, then double click on the page. Set the length of the line. Result a line the exact dimensions required. Set between objects, move object to line ends.
There are probably other ways but I find this down and dirty method is pretty useful.

I've been using that method for simple bits and pieces but I need to arrange a fair few pieces. Wondered if there was a proper way to do it.

Found one way to set the grid intervals as a custom amount and then snap to grid. Works ok if you are doing work on objects close together. Not particularly good if you're working on piece 10ft long! If anyone has any other ideas i'd be grateful.

Measuring tool

Using the measure tool

The measure tool calculates the distance between any two points in the work area. When you measure from one point to another, the distance measured is displayed in the Info palette. The Info palette shows the horizontal and vertical distances from the x and y axes, the absolute horizontal and vertical distances, the total distances, and the angle measured.

All measurements except the angle are calculated in the unit of measure currently set in the Units & Undo Preferences dialog box or in the Artboard panel of the Document Setup dialog box. (See Defining ruler units.)

To measure the distance between two points:

1. Select the measure tool the measure tool .
2. Do one of the following:
* Click the two points to measure the distance between them.
* Click the first point and drag to the second point. Shift-drag to constrain the tool to multiples of 45 degrees.

The tool is located in the eye dropper / flood / measure tool
