Default Flames....

Oh what a day. Wife says. "Do one job and make another"

Any how yesterday I used 500ml of trade air con foam in me top vents to clean condenser of cabbage smell. Let it do it's work then drove it 15 mins with air con on to dry out. Great.

This morning gets in car and it smells of electrical burning. Turns ignition on... Nuffin. Battery flat. Charges batt and notice a lot of rear lights glimmering wen they arnt even turned on...!!!

Then there's smoke. Disconnects batt and investigate light switch. Block connector in flames and damaging light unit.

Remidy.... new light switch unit and 're solder a million wires as it's in th loom (or is there a block connector else were so I can just swop out)..

NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- it..

Conclusion. Air con cleaner not dried enough. It turns back from foam to liquid. Tracks down side vent at drips in light unit. Thus shorting th bazz.

Can any one help with parts??? Its a CDTI Conni 04..

The aircon deodoriser foam should go up the condensate drains which are directly associated with the evaporator. There should be a long delivery pipe attached to the can. The evaporator is where the stinky stuff is, not the dash vents. The evaporator matrix gets coated with bacteria/slime. The foam is a bactericiadal detergent to loosen it from the matrix and let it gloop out of the drain tubes. The type for spraying into vents is more or less an air freshen treatment that lasts a short while but doesn't tackle the cause.

Hi

Yes I meant evaporator not condenser.. First one I used was this below and very good it was.

https://www.micksgarage.com/d/air-co...unit?nostock=1

They suggested it was done this way in th video seen lower down th page in over view. I had no problems last time some years ago. At th end of th day th tube ends up at th evap before release. So either way must be ok.

Th one I used this time must need a larger drying time.

and iv just noticed th first tin I used is 250 ml. Th second was twice th size.. What a clanger aye..

Phil, PM me your VIN number, mileage and address, and I'll post you a replacement LSM.

Sorry I can't help with the wiring plug, but I'm sure one of the other traders who break cars could chop off a length of loom for you

The attached PDF shows the connector face details, and which coloured wire goes where

Usually it is a sunroof leak that causes the LSM to go up in smoke. Good thing you caught it in time, they have been known to destroy the whole car!

Hi Bolin,

What I find confusing is why do we need fuses/what are they for??. When all it wants to do is self combust...

Hi Phil.
I was correct I had two one on each loom both from diesel car, I have it packed and will post out later when I go to pick up my evening local paper. I do not envy you having to connect all those wires, but best of luck with it Arctic
