Default Alarming Sunday Afternoon

The peace and quiet was well and truly shatttered on our street today when Mrs Noc's number 2 Son triggered the alarm on his Rover 25.

Neither fob worked so he unlocked the door with the key, and then the trouble started.

Locking it again on the key silenced the alarm, but we needed to get it on the drive so I thought I'd disconnect the battery and then we could push it onto the forecourt without disturbing the neighbours any more.

Who'd have thought this 25 had a BBUS? Not me that's for sure.

According to the manual the alarm should stop after 10 sessions but it didn't. It is one of those really annoying electronic shrill ascending and descending set of tones, so in the end I had to drill out the security bolts on the cover and remove the BBUS from the car.

It was still going full pelt as I was carrying it into the garage.

Once it had all gone quiet I thought the best plan was to go up the Pub for some sustenance and have a ponder.

So tomorrow I will be looking at the problem (being a plasterer he has a Transit he can use) - probably start by checking the Pektron unit for water ingress, unless anyone has any other ideas?

Both fob batteries were replaced after the car failed to respond, as although not flat they weren't 100% either. Am I correct in thinking the Facelift 25's didn't use the EKA number reset and there isn't a fob reset procedure?

As ever all suggestions gratefully received.

Would expect it to be the same as facelift 45's that also have the BBUS alarm system - the fobs just automatically sync after batteries in car or fob have been changed.

Was always surprised that the 75 did not have BBUS as standard as it was their flagship model.

Learn something everyday Steve - I didn't know the 45's had them either.

At least it gave me a chance to try out the new set of cobalt drills I bought.

Very good they are too - must have looked a bit funny with me drilling away with my ear defenders on and the alarm going flat out.

I am grateful that it hasn't
Pain in the bum !
Our ZR has the BBUS and after a lot of bother I eventually disconnected the batteries in the BBUS module, as advised in another forum . All has been peaceful ever since , and the alarm still works as if it was a normal car

Well that is the last time the alarm will be heard on this 25.

Nothing of value is ever left in it and no-one is going to bother stealing a 25 that has a fair few dings and dents and gets used for small plastering jobs every now and again.

Apart from the owner the vast majority of people just ignore car alarms these days Mike. Me included

Having had a BBUS go off when retrofitting powerwash on my 1.8T I fully sympathise. Jesus thy are loud especially if your head is under the bonnet when they trigger

The Pektron units do have an EKA, the T4 cannot access the EKA (to read/modify) unless the security system is disarmed (and if the fob is failed you cannot disarm the security system without an EKA, hence why Rover dealers charged an arm and a leg as they had to replace the Pektron unit, at ~£600?). However there is a way to extract the EKA code from a armed unit, it is then possible to use the EKA code to disarm the alarm and enter the security system via the T4.

You enter the EKA with the door lock, but then have to wait a further 10 mins (or so) with the ignition switched on before it is possible to start the engine....
This coupled with the fact that the door remote is needed to "normally" disarm the alarm, so the keys are not normally used in the door means the door lock switches are a bit hit and miss meaning it is a royal pain to get the car going using the EKA....
