Tuning a Rover v8
I understand from articles and forums that MG/Rover had plans to market a higher output 260. Possibly manufacturing a model rated to 385 bhp. Is it known if there were any plans to upgrade the Rover v8? If so would the same automatic gearbox have been retained and to what potential output? I imagine any putative upgrading would have been ecu based.

I don't know of any supercharged R75V8s.
Most of the challenge is the mapping, There are not enough cars made, so cost of mapping for a few cars wanting a SC is not feasible. |

The higher output engines (All Ford) would have been supercharged 385hp and I think they planned an even higher output.
I don't see why a 385hp, 75 V8 wouldn't have also been produced, if MG/Rover didn't fail. SJR |

There aren't any due to mapping problems with auto box, I remember reading it wasn't suitable

It's a myth, the tuning files are readily available for various makes of programmers and there are tuners in this country that are more than capable to carry out the job. There is nothing special about a zt v8 or a 75 v8 that makes them any harder to tune or modify than another vehicle using that engine/gearbox set up.

What happened to the cars that failed? How did they fail? Not looking for controversy, merely interested in what can or cannot be done.

Piston Failure due to poor fueling at higher RPM .
Just weak mixtures, nothing too complicated. in the world of Internal combustion C.

As Ceedy says the last one has gone lean at full throttle, it's not the first time that car has done that !!!!
A good look at how the fuel pump is driven will answer a few questions about that car. Unfortunately the owner is having to pay for someone else's mistake. I've seen the pressure and flow graphs off of my car when it had the standard set up and it made me shudder when it got past 4.5k rpm, so mine has got a twin pump set up. As for the other cars that have gone bang from both sides of the fence, over revving has killed a few and lack of fuel pressure or lack of fuel flow has probably seen to the rest of em.
