Default Environment chairman resigns.

Sir Philip Dilleys resignation highlights what is wrong with this country, first sign of trouble he can afford to resign from his job. It would be far better to employ people who depend on their job for their income, then they would take a little more care and interest.

Spot on, although as he's resigning because he stayed in Barbados instead of coming back to oversee the floods he clearly isn't short of a few quid. It won't be long before he has another £200,000 a year job anyway, jobs for the boys when you get to that level.

For me the question is Why oh Why did this moron go to Barbados in the first place (I know his wife's family is there) when the forecast was for a severe El Nino to hit the UK about that time?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/weat...-expected.html

This was being talked about months before and yet he still went.

This folly was compounded by him getting his minions to say that he was "At Home" but neglecting to say that "Home" was in Barbados

While I have no sympathy for guys earning £XXXXXXX who lose their jobs , Just what could he have done if at 'home' ? He probably would have conducted things by phone anyway, as easily from Barbados as Westminster .
Similarly what difference did the PM make by visiting the area ?
King Canute couldnt do anything either .

My point was not if he could or could not do anything,it was that they treat their job as a hobby and not something that they give 100% regard to.

I thought the same derek. I don't think it made a huge amount of difference where in the world he was. You can stay in touch wherever you are.
