Funnily enough I have just cancelled my Sky sub as well, I got fed up paying £43.50 a month for adverts

so I have switched to Freeview and Freesat I suppose you must have some sort of sub to record any channels?

Yeah confirmed.

Sky's costs are just outrageous. You can use this box with freesat provided you pay Sky £10 a month just to subscribe to Sky+ features, pause live tv, record from epg, etc.

Windows Media Center does it for free, go figure?

Not wanting to put off any would-be buyers but just to be sure, PLEASE check with Sky what + type features are available on your current subscription!

I don't want you to buy this then find out you can't use it

Using your Sky system to view the free channels gives you loads of extras over Freeview and Contrary to what sky say you do not need a card.
Due to the Contract arrangements you wont be able to receive CH4,E4,E4+1 etc for another 3 years.

Wot Very well put Kandyman, I think its a better Package, Skys Answer to FreeView as you get extra unscrambled film channels and so much more, if you have sky pull out the card and see what still comes through (yes I know a lot of it is Rubbish). Also dependent on your area its often cheaper by the time you have paid for an aerial upgrade (often required for freeview) and box.

At the moment I have NTL analog because I have no outside aerial and can still watch one channel and record another. Can the free Sky do that or would I have to get an outside aerial as well to record and watch two channels at the same time?

Im afraid with sky basic you can only record the channel you are watching. You would need the Plus box offered above for sale, with a Dual LNB on end of Dish and 2nd run of cable (or quad LNB and have a box in each room like extra FreeView boxes only Freesat Boxes, you can get extra basic boxes from £20!) The catch from Sky is that if you don't subscribe to at least the basic package plus films OR Sport you have to pay £10 per month for the facility. You record onto the hard drive inside the Plus Boxes. What a rip off of a otherewise great idea.
