Default Problems inserting key in ignition

Morning all!
I am having problems inserting the key in the ignition of my ZT, will only go in when the steering is locked which means lots of yanking the wheel round.
I can see what the problem is ( a little tab in the lock stops the key going in).
Can anyone suggest a remedy?

Potentially a faulty ignition barrel that needs changing, if that's so do it now, the barrel can only be changed with key in the lock! Once that can no longer happen the amount of work is much greater.
