engine not turning prob.
hi all,
having a little, intermitent problem turning the engine. sometimes i have to turn the key up to a dozen times before the engine turns. it's as if the auto gear box is in gear, which obviously it isn't. as per a previous post, i ended up with a flat battery, this fault has only happened since i fixed that problem. could it be connected ? any ideas anyone? cheers |

Sounds exactly the problem I had with my 2.5 auto. every now and again just as if it had been left in a gear.
It was the starter motor contacts in the motor. When the solenoid activates, it throws what is like a large copper disk so it bridges two heavy contacts. This then engages the starter motor. What has probably happened is the copper disc and the contacts have been pitted and not making contact. I took out my starter motor ( not too hard ) removed the cover for the solenoid and cleaned the disc and contacts. Never missed a start for around 3 month now. HTH

No Problem, 99% certain that will be the cause. If I get a min I will take some pictures of a spare one i have and show you just where it can be found, I am not even sure if you could reach it without even taking the starter off. (its under the battery box by the way, well I didn't know that when i was looking for it first time)
when you looking at it anyway?

Oh Yes......... off with the battery box, then three bolts and two wires and the starter will come out, it is a bit fiddly .
