Default Brake pipe question.

I've kinda decided to get my V6 roadworthy and keep it as they just aren't fetching any money at the moment.

As the car will be sat on a drive unused for some time I'm planning on covering the brake pipes with either self amalgamating tape or waxoyl.

Come MOT time do the inspectors scrape off the tape to examine the pipe, call it an automatic fail as they can't see the pipe directly, or just assume it's OK as it's covered/coated?

They should assume it is OK as no dismantling is allowed. But make sure it is OK under the tape/wax for obvious reasons!

I would go for the waxoyl rather than self amalgamating tape.
I would think doing it with self amalgamating tape would prove very tricky and although it is great stuff if moisture did manage to get in it would be trapped there.
Rather like the rusting that starts by the brake pipe clips.
Pity that a couple of years ago I gave a couple of gallons of waxoyl and an applicator away after it had sat in my shed for years. I now have a vehicle that I care enough for to use it.

Can do. Yellow waterproof grease needed.

Waxoil is so much easier though.

Provided that the pipes are OK to start with, use Waxoil. I have covered the underside and all visible parts of my car(s).

Comments from the MOT station? "That car should last a life time"

At least doing that it looks like you are looking after the car and concerned as to its integrity. I am sure that goes a long way!
