Default over heating problem

Well the ZT disgraced herself last night with the temp gauge going up in to the red
gave it a good check over this morning and can't see any problems,
However after taking it for a 20mile run stopping half way for over an hour

the ZT boiled over on the way back after 7miles

so I have checked the fan motor and she works on ok
checked the Thermostat housing seems ok
also the rad isn't leaking

there is no water in the oil

there is however what appears to be copper particles in the header tank guys..

Any ideas please

Graham,

When the temperature gauge reaches 'normal' is the large coolant hose at the bottom of the radiator hot or cold? If cold, it points to a stuck thermostat.

Once you find the blockage you can do something about it. One member found a huge lump of the stuff blocking his oil cooler, so a new part was necessary.

A good question! Knowing the direction of flow, you could start with the high tech. method of feeling coolant hoses.

just run the car up to temperature 'normal' and the large coolant hose at the bottom of the radiator is cold

Use the OBD display so you know what the actual temperature is, and whether or not you've reached the temp where the thermostat should have kicked in.

What a result! That shows you that there is no flow through the radiator. So it's highly possible that either the rad. is bunged up with the evil stuff or it's clogged up the thermostat (which is not in the supply hose to the radiator).
