Anyone here managed to change the BMW logo to a Rover one on a BMW MK3 nav drive...?
...and would be willing to share the ISO image of the CD he created to do that?
My MK3 drive has the latest BMW firmware already (1/63) and using tutorials on bimmernav and other forums, I download various versions of BMW software for the nav drives and modified them with the appropriate tools to change the BMW startup image to a Rover one. But when loading the CD into the drive, it would display the "Update disc detected" or whatever else it displays first, and then would get stuck there on a blank screen, and not display any progress bar, so the update wouldn't actually take place. The drive then looked dead, and I only managed to recover it using a CD burnt from a unmodified BMW iso image...only after disconnecting the drive for about one hr to allow it to go back to factory settings. I tried the process twice, using a different source image the second time, to the same effect. As I don't want to render my drive useless on a 3rd attempt, if anyone has done so on his own MK3 drive and is willing to share an iso image of the cd he created...I'd be more than thankful :-)

Some years ago I purchased a Rover splash screen for the BMW mark 3 unit. The instructions that came with it made it clear that if you have the latest software already on the unit you must first install an earlier version before making the change.
Once this has been done the unit will recognise the new splash screen image on your SW3-1/63 disc as an upgrade and should then install correctly. At the moment it does not recognise the disc as an upgrade and this may be why it wont istall. I hope this helps. |

Thanks to both of you for your comments, I do know that the upgrade will only happen if the CD is of a higher version, but you can counter this by tricking your CD and making it appear as a newer (non-officially existing) version by changing a hex value in one of the files, which I had done.
Anyway, I have someone shipping a CD to me that he had successfully used to upgrade his own, so I'm betting this will finally do the trick for me.

Sorry for the late bump, but I managed to update my MK3 drive using the CD I was sent, and I made a copy of that CD, so if you have a MK3 you want to update, feel free to send me a PM

Hi there, been off the forum for a while, now back (and subs paid!!). This has been something I've been wanting to do for a while. Now I've just updated my MK3 to the latest V32 firmware (which is now MUCH slower) to correct GPS problems I was having. Now I get the B*W logo when switching on . So this would be fantastic! May just take you up on the offer!!! Thanks I'll PM you.
