Default one side issue! why?

Have just got hold of a new round pin bm54 back unit from a guy on ebay.

Got the unit, swapped it over, just plug and play. Only problem, get a good sound out of it, but only to the left hand speakers and cant seem to tune in any fm stations. Have a pure highway installed and tunes in fine, but again only comes out of one side.

Contacted the guy, was a gent, sent me a second unit, that was exactly the same. He offered all sorts of advise, couldn't fault him.
Put the old unit back in and alls fine, put the bm54 back in and one side again!
Have read a lot of the one side issue and the repair kits, surely it cant be two duff units?

Shame, the sound from one side, was good

Have just noticed that the unit is made by Siemens, not Becker, are they inferior units does anybody know?
Have been trying all sorts with unit, still only get sound from left hand side only

Have now managed to knacker sat nav unit, fires up, lights on, but gps navigation option has disappeared from monitor. Also noticed when I do take old radio unit out and try to sort bm54, everything fires up soon as I connect earth or aerial or 17 pin plug??

So the issue is, as you say, the well documented one side problem, I think they were saying problems with the amp inside the unit?

Common problem. One option you have is an amp upgrade, which, I think, gives you 4x40watts. That's a significant power increase, and your missing sound will be fixed. Of course, that's £100 you hadn't bargained on spending, but hopefully you got the BM54 at a reasonable price. Maybe ask for a partial refund to help pay for repair?

This is where I thought it would end, but hoped it wouldn't!

The guy that sold the units, seems genuine.. ex rover engineer until the demise!?

He has sold a few other units, on ebay, with 12 months warranty.
Have sent him another message!

I paid £120 plus postage, seemed very good, he actually put the unite up by £50 a few days later. I have emailed someone else who bought one of the units to see if he had problems, the seller seems to think I have problems with my wiring, but wouldn't I have issues with my current unit if that was the problem?

Is it a round pin version or are you using a harness?

Its the round pin version, its not made by Becker, which I thought they all were, has Siemens name on it.
He's from your neck of the woods actually, Harborne, B'ham?

It's not a BM54, you've bought a BMW 'business' unit, not the 'professional'.
