Default Xtrons td714gd

Hi everyone, just thought I’d let everyone know about the Xtrons TD714D I bought on eBay form atlas-car-sys for £239.95. I chose this model as it had a built digital TV tuner and you could display your own logo as it loads up, it also has GPS which I wanted. It arrived after about 3 days. I was replacing a rubbish old single din Kenwood so I had to buy a double din facia which I bought on eBay from dynamicsounds00 for £23.99. The first thing I had to do was trim the edges out of the facia with a sharp Stanley to knife to get it to fit. Once I did this I realised I couldn’t get the stereo to go all the way in and it kept flying out of the hole! I had to cut out with the Stanley knife the plastic behind the stereo, which gave me the extra space I needed to push it all the way in. I tried the GPS antenna that came with it for a few days and it got an excellent signal even inside the dash! I put the TV antenna supplied in the fuse box but didn’t receive anything at my house but in the centre of Southampton I got about 20 channels. I replaced both antennas eventually replacing the TV antenna with active one, I was surprised how easy it was to run the back cable to the rear windscreen. I also wanted a decent GPS antenna so purchased a GPS tax disc from mobilephone_team on eBay for £5.90. With the active TV antenna I now receive over 50 channels in Southampton and about 20 at home. I can see why people make special cages for these double dins, mine was sat okay so I used black marine sealant to make sure it’s kept in place. I couldn’t get it to sit flush due to the curvature in the dash and also due to the fact it’s motorised. The entire project probably cost me about £300+ once all the bits & connectors were added. It’s not a difficult job just plug and play with a few adjustments here and there it even works with the steering remote! However, I would rather have bitten the bullet and bought one from radio guy as they look a lot better when they’re fitted.

I’m pleased with the performance & quality of it, I installed igo 2 for satnav which is excellent. The thing I dislike about are its user interface when playing something the SD card or an MP3 disc, it also takes a while to read my 16gb mem card. I also wish had a traffic announcement option on the radio!

If anyone’s got any questions or want to have a play before buying one yourself you are more than welcome to contact me

Not normally a fan of these after market units, but that looks exceptional value for money for the functionality!

I wondered what that was in your back window when I saw the car yesterday, now I know.

looks good value for money, the DDin sean does pips it purley on the fact it does not look aftermarket as the Xtrons unit does look a bit out of place.

Can I suggest you Join the Xtrons forum, plenty of advice and help there plus they provide firmware upgrades when they become available.

I have TD695G, excellent bit of kit.

Oh you've got the MK1 Grandad Rover 75? I think the wiring is different, the mk1's have a weird infrared light dont they and the MK2 is hard wired?
