Default air con

Hi,

I haven't been able to get my aircon to work since i bought the car, i am not that clued up to be honest but my son had a look last weekend and noticed that the fan at the front is not switching in when set to cold nor can i hear the compressor kicking in. Anyone have any ideas what it might be? relay or something else?

Most likely need a new cooling fan. How long have you had it? Did you buy froma trader or private sale? If a trader take it back.

So it may not have been working for a long time which means that the refrigerant gas has mostly likely leaked out. Get a mobile air conditioning specialist (they're often small, family businesses) to attach a gauge set, evacuate and recharge your system.

The compressor won't run if there is no, or very little, refrigerant gas so proceed as above. Once your satisfied that you have the correct charge you can check the fan operation by selecting 'demist' when the fan should run continuously at slow speed. Fan problems are well documented on the forum; just perform a search.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies especially yours fatman, that has proved invaluable. Just done the diagnostic test and hey ho it came back with fault code 00 which means no fault found. I am assuming then it just needs a regas?

That diagnostic test is only for the ATC controls and sensors. It doesn't mean that there isn't a fault elsewhere.
