What would the 75 / ZT be now?
Just a bit of fun :P
If you had to select a car, that is currently available on the market, as a 'new Rover 75 / MG ZT' what would it be? For me I think the Jaguar XF fits the bill. I know it's a bit bigger than the 75, but looks the part, and works well as both a more upmarket car, and a sports variant. Not to mention the tourer / wagon / estate version that is coming out! Over to you! |

But the latest batch of Jags are too bling. I hate the interiors. My Dad bought a nearly new X-type just after they'd stopped making them. I went with him to collect it and had a look at the XFs and XJs in the showroom. I was not impressed. The X-type and S-type were quite 75esque but the latest Jag interiors are not really that classy IMHO

When I eventually end up replacing my ZT, the Jaguar XF will certainly be one of my options. Mercedes CLS and Audi A5 will be the only other options on my list.
Final choice will probably come down to price and availability, as I'm hard pressed to choose just one of those three right now! Having said that, I'm not discounting anything else, after all you never know. My first Rover (a 620ti) wasn't anywhere even NEAR my list when I bought it (the list was a Calibra V6, Ford Probe or Audi A4...) - but the price and performance was such a revelation, I just had to buy it. And have stuck with MGRover ever since!

I think the new Jags are a bit too "eurobox" I think I would go for one of these

You realise, of course, that the car doesn't really look like that. Wide angle lens shot makes it wider and a lot lower.
And it starts at 65K hardly a 75 replacement for most of us.

yes to the Jag but.........
Problem will be the price. Super cars and I think transformed in recent years for the better. Certainly paying dividends in sales world wide.
Back to the price issue; the next Mazda 6 looks like a Jag imitation and will be very very reasonable and totally reliable. Along with my 75 and some minis we have a Mazda bongo camper and this although from 1995 does not break at all; even the electric blinds still work! Probably a curve ball though; the 2.2 diesel will be £30y tax in case anyone in the future is tempted! |
