Well! I have finally sussed it... I think... for now anyway...

Due to this unit being full size measuring 16cm in depth, there really isn't any room behind the DD for the plugs, so I couldn't neatly mount the DD behind the fascia, so it had to go in from the front (I didn't want to go cutting the sound-proofing away from the bulkhead to make more room).

The RunGrace unit is quite heavy, so it really needs to be supported at the rear. I didn't want to rely on the silly thin plastic fascia to take the weight.

This is what I have done... I used 2x 40mm angled brace plates to support the DD. I then measured and cut a piece of 18mm x 32mm batten to fit between the brackets, this will be used later to support the DD from moving forward, or being pulled out.

18mm x 32mm piece of softwood batten cut to fit, sanded to look pretty.

Fitted using 4x M6 self tappers.

Some felt pads to cover the screw heads to protect the underside of the DD.

I then fitted a 235mm car stereo straight mounting plate to the rear of the DD, you will see 3 threaded screw holes at the rear of the DD. I could only use one hole as the holes were only in-line with the one hole.

I then installed the unit into the fascia by bending the straight mounting plate, lined everything up and bent back the mounting plate to line up with the wooden batten. I can now fix the straight mounting plate to the batten using one self tapper, this now stops anyone pulling the the unit out.

Still not finished as you can see, but it will look something like this... I've not mounted the GPS receiver yet, but I reckon its going to go up under the roof lining. It will get a much batter and faster reception on the roof than sat in under the dash behind the DD unit.

Similar to my 6cm depth DD unit here... There was no need to support the rear of the unit due to it being so light and slim (only 6cm in depth), its a different story with the RunGrace full size CD/DVD unit measuring 16cm.

Dallas can I ask how you slid the unit into the facia, as I slid mine in from the front till the units black front panel hits the facia, but looking at yours it would seem that you took enough out from the facia so the units black front sits in the facia rather than butting up against it

The photo above is not the RunGrace DD, that is another model that only measures 60mm in depth, so it was very easy to get that factory flush look.

The full size DD with DVD I had to fit in from the front, pushes in until the DD front panel touches the fascia as you say. The DD does sit slightly proud at the top due to the curvature of the Rover fascia, but it clears the brow perfectly.

How much angle do you have, maybe your DD is tilted too much.

Thanks mine sits out the half inch at the top and bottom when the black edge of the front of the head unit touches the curve of the facia

Can I ask which facia you used, as it looks to fit really closely to the unit?

I epoxy glued some plastic to the back of the facia. After the epoxy settled I drilled the newly made "ears" and fitted the unit with the supplied bolts

So could you do the same by gluing the fixing brackets to the facia rear?

Or have I got it completely wrong?

So how did you do it?

You have to remove the plastic L bracket from the radio aperture and possibly cut some plastic to make enough room for the new unit.
