Default Carrier Bolt; Help Rqd, West Mids

I'm having a right game getting the top bolt of my R/H front caliper carrier so I can change the damaged disc. I have a set of Irwin removers but they don't have the right size and I managed to get a 13mm ring spanner hammered on and even with several whacks with the hammer, it still won't budge. Off to screwfix to get some plusgas and a better lump hammer.
I've ordered another set of bolt removers but need the car desperately to move my Dad into his care home and wondered if anyone local might have a way of getting it off, maybe a decent impact driver will do it??

'Living in hope, Drew.

......just pondering, what's the chances of getting the disc off with the carrier still in place? Zero to none?

I found that it worked to hit the end of the carrier that was unbolted, with a lump hammer. Hitting the carrier to and fro managed to loosen the seized bolt.

'Did think of that but it won't move in the direction to undo the bolt. I could try moving it the other way first maybe.

If a bolt like that is being a pain I usually wind it right to tighten - it can help shock the thread and make it loosen. Beyond that, a single sharp tap with a lump hammer on the bolt head and bit of heat applied carefully works wonders too. Not really a fan of hammering bolts off tbh, a good breaker bar is preferable. You didn't mention approximately where in the badlands the car is btw.

Hi Drew.

I would say none, the irwin 13mm should fit and easy remove the bolt, tap it on lightly to get it to grip, then turn it slowly with a ratchet, try a mid to long breaker bar, once once it grips good you can swap for a ratchet ring spanner.

Hi Pete, I'm at my Dads place in Sutton Coldfield at the moment.

Cheers Steve, I have got a 13mm Irwin but couldn't get it on the bolt head. Odd, as I did get a 13mm ring spanner on there! I've ordered a set of the low profile removers, they seem to have more varied sizes. Was a bit surprised it wouldn't move when I had the spanner on as it didn't move on the bolt, it just wouldn't budge it. Was using a ball pein hammer, I'm picking up a lump hammer later, might be better.
I don't have a 3/8 breaker bar here either, or a 1/2 to 3/8 converter.

Don't forget these are the front 15mm bolts, not the rear 13mm ones. Although as soon as I touched it, so much rust fell off it's almost 13mm now!

HI Drew.
My bad, i must have read R/H and it registered as rear for some reason so did you try the 11/16" Irwin on it, the front ones usually are easier to remove, do let us know.
