Sorry That's my final offer. It rarely shows 94. It doesn't go above when I park

Now Steve, if you park it up for 4 hours and leave it running with a brick on the accelerator... Are you sure it does not creep above 92-94

After 4 hours running it would run out of fuel

When my 1.8 suffered HGF there was mayo very evident on the dipstick as well as the filler cap, may be worth taking a look too.

O.K. Steve; if your head gasket was failing we would expect overheating, but you have none. We would also see mayonnaise on the dipstick and/or in the expansion tank, but you haven't reported any. All we have is some deposits under the oil filler cap which normally indicates condensation which isn't being dispersed due to the engine not getting sufficiently hot; hence my obsession with your coolant temperature.

Your small coolant loss might be through the expansion tank cap seals. If this causes a loss of pressurisation, running temperatures would be cooler on the move but rise when the ram effect stops. I'd like to know what happens if you ever get stuck in a traffic jam.

Ok, been out for a drive this morning with the aircon set to 'econ' mode. 92 degrees whilst driving at speed. When pottering along in traffic the temp rises to 96 and then settles back to 92. Have thoroughly checked all over engine for any sign of external coolant leak and none seen.

I have also checked oil level. Hasn't risen. Normal colour. The smell when I open the oil filler cap is of hot oil, not coolant.
