Default ZT-T CDTi Thermostat changed!!

Took the plunge today and changed the thermostat - had been looking at the box for 2 or 3 weeks trying to pluck up courage. Anyway the car had been running at 66 deg C for ages with only the Webasto to keep it vaguely warm but now a healthy 89 deg C so worth the effort.

A big thank you to Jules for his excellent guide and pictures which I could not have done without - it wasn't easy though and took me just over 4 1/2 hours!! Everything was hard to get at but it seemed particularly difficult to get the metal pipe to fit into the new housing - I ended up applying some petroleum jelly around the end of the pipe and it eventually went in. Anyway all done now - even got some decent heat out of the heater and the Webasto can have a well deserved rest after running continuosly for several weeks.

Found a bit of oil inside the inlet side of the Turbo so a bit worried about that. Cleaned the crankcase breather and valve just in case that was the problem but after 140,000 miles maybe the oil seals are going on the Turbo - anybody any knowledge of expected Turbo life?

A twenty-odd degree Centigrade increase in running temperature must have a significant effect on fuel consumption. Could you come back with an update on this? I'm very interested in getting the numbers.

Good job Geoff!

I'll edit the post to include mentioning adding a silicone based lubricant to the O ring to aid fitment.
Goes for any O ring really. Inserting them dry is no no.

And as TC says, don't forget your before & after MPG figures

OK I'll check on the MPG and report back. I have the synergy 2 fitted so I'll do a tank full and get an accurate reading.
