He's comfortable in hospital after an operation, looks like he'll be ok.

that helmet looks amazing considering what its had hit it and the forces involved must have been phenominal, unlucky, hopefully he'll be back on his feet soon

They said that the helmet is one of the new carbon fibre ones, which is twice as strong as the standard helmets from a year or two ago. His car was doing 162mph when the spring impacted, and it weighed almost a kilo...

I just hope that the FIA etc don't come up with a knee-jerk reaction like they did after Senna died (where they did stuff like adding a chicane to the Spa circuit at Eau Rouge)... sometimes a freak accident is just a freak accident, and you can't eliminate risk completely. F1 is safer than it's ever been, and I fear that further safety changes could ruin it. For example, someone on TV mentioned having the cockpits enclosed... but then it wouldn't be F1.

Thats good news.

It's a shame the sport has had 2 serious accidents in as many weeks.

At least this one was not fatal like the other.
