Car Won't Fire Up
I need some help, please. I've got a 52 Plate CDT which won't start. The battery is fine, I've charged it fully. The engine cranks over, but just won't fire up.
The under bonnet fuel pump was noisy and we've had a spot of trouble with it not starting recently - nothing that a spanner on the UBFP wouldn't fix. Until that stopped doing the trick. So I replaced the UBFP but the car still won't fire up. I have removed the pipe from the fuel pump to the filter, popped it into a jar, and turned the car ignition to position 2 and no diesel is coming through. Before I send the UBFP back to DMGRS, can anyone suggest what else I need to check/fix? The new UBFP is an OEM, not a Pierburg. Thanks in advance. Andy |

How much fuel is in the tank? is your in tank pump working? Take fuel filler cap off, ear to the hole and ignition to position 2, can you hear it humming? If not and tank is below a quarter level, add some fuel and try starting it. Pierberg/VDO were the OEM pumps, any other makes are usually not up to the job and don't last long. If your problem continues, Big Russ is not far from You, I'm more than confident he can help you.

Replacement UBPs usually have little plastic protectors over the end of the pipes. If you missed removing it then it could be stuck in the fuel pipe below the inlet pipe on the pump, blocking the fuel flow.

I'll have a listen out for the in-tank pump later and report back. Last edited by Andy Fax; 23rd March 2022 at 12:46.. |

Haha, although that sounds like something I would do... I definitely took the little red plastic nipple things off the ends of the UBP.
