Rear backplate torque settings ?
I'm fitting new rear backplates to my brakes . Going well , but confused over the torque settings for the 4 hex allen screws which fasten the backplate to the trailing arm . Rave says "disc shield bolts" are 9Nm , and that "backplate to hub torx bolts" are 64Nm . Which is it ? My screws are not torx but hex / allen heads . 9 seems low , but 64 seems high ; they were quite tight to undo , but then aren't they always !

Ok , think I've sorted it
I tightened them with a standard socket handle to what I thought would be a suitable tightness , like we did before we had torque wrenches , then checked what I had by testing it with incremental adjustments on my torque wrench . Turned out I had tightened it to about 60 Nm ! So nipped them up to 64 , job done . Glad I didn't leave them at 9 Nm , although they did feel secure ! Only thing I am left wondering is what on earth is a disc shield bolt ?

purely a guess, but the rears carry the handbrake mechanics, so will need quite a bit more strength. Fronts are just there to be pretty lol

I can see that the front "backplate" is a different matter to the rear one , being held on by 3 small bolts rather than 4 large ones and this would explain the difference in Torque . Just a shame that Rave did not describe them better ; "front " and "rear " would have helped !

Have you got a torque wrench that goes as low as 9Nm Chris?
I could do with a low range model - the lowest mine will go is 30Nm. Perhaps a bike wrench is the best bet - e.g. https://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-x-...ue-wrench-set/ |

Yes , I bought one to work on alloy parts where the principal of tighten hard by hand then give it a tap with a hammer doesn't work well
It's a Sealey Premier STW1011 and has a range of 7-112 Nm . I like it ; looks and feels well made and is satisfying to use I have another Sealey that goes 30-210 . After 210 I reach for my breaker bar and give it an extra nip …….
