Funny both you and Brian suffered from this issue, and my motor's deathly quiet (apart from the injector pipes resonating, of course. And the o/s droplink). My parents drive a Focus, with Goodyears on it, and you'd have to wear ear defenders...

I've replaced every rubber mounting, joint, bush, you name it. The noise transfer into the car is absolutely unbearable. Now my elderly mother also has a classic Mini, but in her eyes, it's not classic, it's her car! Now talk about chalk and cheese. Even at 70 mph you can hold a conversation with the person next to you. In mine above 40 mph forget it! My radio in the Mini is simply to listen to in traffic jams nothing more. Yo really cant hear it about 30 mph. It has a fairly standard exhaust fitted as well. What the problem is I dont think I'll ever find it. Back to my ZT. It's not as quiet as I thought it'd be. But it's the facelift version and I've been told the sound proofing isnt as good as the MKI .

For What it is worth, I have Goodyear on my cdt,195/15/65.
I have a set of forkspokes with Avon Z5 205/16 /55 On. They are like chalk and cheese. The uncomfortable ride on the fourspokes is something to behold. In fact I had to take them off because it has knocked the drop links out, I have to replace them when I have time. The Avon’s seem to wear more even over all the tread. But I can honestly say that the Goodyear efficient grip are by far more comfortable and quieter than the Avon’s

The correct size being 215/55/16, the difference is like 18" wheels on 40s rather than 45s, the difference in comfort level being marked. Brian |

Ive got Hankook 225/45R18 95Y and have no complaints, they are reasonably quiet, hold the road wet and dry and are on 21000miles and maybe need changing in April. Chris S.

The Zt was bought with 40 profile tyres all round and felt awful, never realised how bad a tyre can make a good car feel, trying to park the car made weird noises and felt like the tyres were loose! all gone and returned back to normal after fitting new 45 profile boots!

Sorry but I failed to put in the post that I bought tyres with XL (extra load) on them. The sidewalls are very stiff when you push them with your finger. Impossible to test for tyre pressures that way. I did not think that the XL would mean that the sidewalls would be so stiff as to be like bricks. Won’t happen again.

So after Brian’s comments about noise etc, I decided to test the car out a little today – maybe I’m deaf, but no noticeable road noise at all
I also pushed her a little hard on a left hander, slightly damp road, in a place where I had a wide margin for error – no sliding, and I wouldn't normally drive like that in the dry, never mind the wet. So I have no complaint at all about these tyres, I have to say, except for the lack of longevity
