Default HK parcel shelf sub - does it do anything?

Details: ZT Saloon, fitted with the HK speaker upgrade.

History: Previously owned ZT 190 Saloon without the HK kit.

I can't tell any difference between the sound quality from my previous 190 without the HK kit and my current 260 with it. Does the sub actually do anything at all?

Only, if it is as poor as i believe it is i may strip the sub out as i'd rather have the additional boot space...

Without actually having a non-HK setup to compare with I would say that the sub does help out in the really low frequencies. Try disconnecting the sub and see what happens?

I take it the Amp has been left in and connected to the Sub Woofer? as they seem to appear on EBay, so some people are removing them, have a check.

Any ideas where it would be? Is it the 'mystery' box in the spare wheel well (ZT 260 - other 'boxes' are the TV tuner, Battery, Emergency fuel cut off and CD Autochanger).

Its a large unit with many connections measuring about 14" x 10" on my Tourer it is under floor with TV Receiver etc. but can also be in left hand wall partion in Tourer tailgate section, would think Saloon the same, unless someone can advise otherwise.

One of my "leaflets" shows it mounted to underside of Parcel Shelf!!??

Any chance of a photo of the HK arrangement in the boot?

I thought it was just a small sub bolted to the bottom of the shelf?

HK amp is bolted to the lower part of the Nav comp bracket (thing with the fins on it)

if it was not there I doubt you would hear anything as it is in series with the output from the Radio.

The subs do work but they are a bit masked as to much Bass goes to the door speakers

pic of mine

From my experience the HK system is an absolute wate of time and money. A far better sounding system can be had for less than £500.

I could also not live with the loss of boot space, it's shallow enough without it!

A good head unit and quality component speakers front and rear (mounted correctly in MDF) blows the HK set up inthe weeds..................(sorry all those that have the HK set up)
