There's no point blaming Farage, that's akin to blaming Cameron for giving us a Tory government. Neither would able to do anything without a large chunk of support from joe public.
Of course, the new party leader might decide to ignore the vote completely, or perhaps go for the Norway option with free movement of people, but that's not to be recommended if he wants to win the next election. Ignore public opinion, and Farage will still be there eating into his nice fat majority until Corbyn... Yes even him... Finds himself in No10. You see that's why we voted to leave. I've been saying for a while I suspect the result of these negotiations could result in a second referendum to accept or not accept the deal they've negotiated, I didn't think Hunt etc would admit as much so soon. To my mind Out means Out, Hunt seems to want shades of grey. Like you, I think a referendum has to have just two questions. Accept the deal or don't, who knows what happens in that case. And to both Polly and MGJ, I'm not blaming Farage, quite the reverse! I see him as the mouthpiece of the majority that voted Out. He and the general public will go nuts if the Hunt, Gove, Johnson mob try to water down an EU withdrawal which is clearly what is happening. People voted for Out and they expect a proper Out. Seems the official campaign team are now renaguing, on this. And MGJ, I hope you are not comparing yourself to Farage. You may have both recognised the 'danger' eons ago, but he formed a party that got millions of votes at the last GE. I can't stand the guy, and I'm hugely embarrassed to have voted for him once before I saw through him! But he did get people energised. |

You have to be made of strong stuff to put your head as far above the parapet as he has for the past few years.
