CD ROM's - thread closure
Whilst I can understand the attitude taken by the Forum moderators that they cannot condone the purchase of "pirated" copies of Rover/MG software because of legal implications, surely most members on here who require access to the information contained on these CD's have no option other than to buy one off ebay.
They are still freely available, and how do you know if it is genuine or a ripped-off copy? No-one says in the ads. If the owners of the copyright can't be ***** to produce any more, then that is their loss. It would be interesting to run a poll on here to find out how many of our members KNOW that they have a genuine Rover/MG item. Just my twopennorth Mick |

Whether or not you have a genuine disk is irrelevant as far as I can see Mick.
You would not have been granted a licence regardless of where the disk came from owing to the fact that they are only officially licenced to dealers as far as I am aware. With regard to the copyright owners not producing any more then, if you are referring to EPC I can tell you that a new version is issued every month. |

It might be a bit more complicated than that. There is a licensed Workshop Manual (a cut down Rave) for the 75/ZT named RIM.
RIM was sold retail to the public by MGR for a number of years and there will be many copies remaining that it will be perfectly legal to re-sell ( I have one). Also genuine RAVE discs have been and are sold via a number of places. If someone buys a genuine RAVE then I'd be interested who if at all XPart might attempt to sue! A real problem is that I have seen the RAVE name used generically to describe both the Dealer discs and the licensed retail 'RIM', as well as pirated discs on ebay. epc is another matter altogether and I could go on about that for hours - but won't hth

Let's put this to bed.
There are no circumstances under which the club will be seen as party to or condoning the sale or ownership of pirate software in any way. The copyright is still in force and as such means that software sold on Ebay or elsewhere or indeed copied privately for your own use is illegal. That is why we try to keep the topic off the forum. BTW I moved this non technical thread out of the Technical forum. This thread is now closed. |
