Advice needed about my PC
I currently use Opera as my web browser, all day it has been showing a Google prompt to read and agree new privacy settings. Is this genuine and should I agree to it in order to access the web. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes that's fine, we use Oprah as well, once you have agreed terms and conditions it wont ask you again

Doesn't matter which browser or type of hardware (desktop/laptop/table/phone) the message is from Google about data collection and privacy settings/issues, you have to take steps and agree (or change to Bing) to original or modified settings to view any search after it has been displayed x-number of times.

I had that message the other day I saw it as harmless as it came from google. Didn't accept the terms and conditions though?

After recently installing the free Win 10 on a PC the other day, I'm not comfortable with all this data agreements sharing your personal stuff with all & sundry.
I have/want as little as possible to do with Google if I can help it. I'm running an old 32 bit Pc that I've used unbuntu on for years, Never had a crash/freeze/brain f a r t whatsoever. I'm going in install the 64 bit version over the window 10 PC I did the other day. one of the most annoying things about Win 10 besides all the personal data trawling is the ads & constant selling of stuff I haven't the slightest interest in. You don't get all this malarkey with Ubuntu, so today's agenda is ditching MS win 10 & installing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Neither did I at first, but after displaying many times and being dismissed, eventually it would not continue search until I did; answer was to read in full, take each option in turn, switch off what I didn't want, then accept what was after all a revised set of T&C's.

I have cookies disabled, but banking and club etc. ones specifically enabled (Firefox). I've modified my Hosts file so that the Google and many other monitoring sites cannot be accessed - it probably needs updating. I've taken Flash off.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will know whether I've done enough and whether the Hosts file exists in later versions than XP. I've only played with Windows. Pete |

It's Google's new legal agreement so they can send any of your data to the NSA (& CIA). Most of us agree to it but I can see your reluctance. You can always try TOR browser which protects your privacy but many websites don't allow it in.
Firefox is good with Scriptblocker and Adblock Plus addons as an alternative. |
