As the X Type was made at Hailwood at the old Escort factory, it was hardly a paragon of quality!

It's not the worst car around, good ones have proved they are decent quality. There's a bad apple in every batch.

Owners of a 75 claim quality went downhill when production moved from Cowley to Longbridge. But I'm sure the fact is debatable

In theory it was a budget Jaguar trying to compete in a class above what it was intended to be. In theory a bit like the 75 trying to compete in the same mid range saloon market which the German Marques have dominated.

Only 34% of an X type is Mondeo.

Nothing wrong with a 2.2 Mondeo diesel engine or a Ford 6 speed gearbox fitted in many X types they are quick and economical.
I've got an X type estate 2007 which replaced a 2001 Mondeo estate which was a first class car.
The Jaguar handles better and feels much tighter than the Mondeo although the Mondeo has the larger load space which sometimes is missed.
Not as comfortable as my 75 CDTi 160 BHP which in reality is a toy but it does the job.

As a point no one said too much when Rover fitted Honda parts to the 420. 416.etc , It wasn't slagged off because it was a sensible option in fact I'd rather a Honda petrol than the "K series" Our CDTi engines are BMW.
