Default Heater not working

With the end of summer I tried the heater on Friday while driving down the motorway and couldn't help noticing the lack of any actual heating taking place unless driving at 70 mph and even then not much heat and only occasionally. Any thoughts on where to start, does it need some work on the heater matrix?

Common problem due to way the heater matrix works, good information here though with step by step guide

Also Mark, as you have a diesel, check that your thermostat isn't stuck in an open or partially open condition by activating the instrument pack diagnostics and monitoring the actual coolant temperature (see relevant "How to ....").
