Default Shame About This Rover 800 Mk1 Stirling.

Not sure why this was stripped but seems a waste of yet another rare car.

You think that is rare?!
I have a 1988 2.5 ltr Sterling.....yes with the 2.5 ltr Honda, not the 2.7.
My gearbox has died, and the Transmission Specialists ae not having any luck finding replacement parts.
I could end up soon with it back in my driveway with no gearbox.
2.7 ltr gearbox has more electronics so whilst the physical dimensions are the same, the electronics mean it is not a direct swap.

Reverse gear, final drive, plus a few other bits that I don't know what are called!
Reverse gear has about 3/4 inch broken off a tooth. Final drive has hardening missing in a few places, there is some sort of plate with lots of tiny tiny roller bearings on it that needs replacing.......... That is what I know of.

I personally think the original owner was goosed with whoever did the servicing on the car. My mate bought the car off him, and I heard the horror story of what the oil was like. Plus what was found in it!
Put it this way.....could have started to build a beach!

Engine runs fine, luckily, after 3 oil changes in quick succession when my mate bought it.

As for the gearbox.......I would not be suprised if it has had 'other' gearbox oil put in it.
I had some genuine Hondamatic stuff which I used to change the oil in my then 416 Tourer.....wish I had put it in the Sterling instead.....but then by what I have seen and been told.....it was already shot.

Have you tried a Honda dealer? The parts may be common to later Honda cars?
