Unhappy Driver's door lock.....again!

Belated New Year greetings to one and all.

I spent a sizeable chunk of the weekend trawling this forum. Do you know there are nearly 57,000 threads hereon? I eventually arrived at https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=91188 with which I have similar symptoms; key turns in lock with no discernible effect, save that the little red light on the dash flickers. In my case, however, the lock has never been removed in my sixteen years of ownership. Looking at the photos in the link, the white deposit on the operating rod with star-shaped ends implies a mazak or similar casting/moulding. I fear, therefore, that the rod has failed, possibly due to corrosion, wear or the dreaded zinc alloy fatigue. (like old Dinky Toys). Do the experts think that is likely? If not, what are the other possibilities? I think Item 19 on https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001786 is the rod in question, but would appreciate confirmation. At that price its worth buying one anyway.

I realise that whatever the outcome, the door card will have to be removed, but I haven't a clue how to go about it. The 'How-to' at https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=169384 has all the photos obliterated by overlaid trade marks. Is there any way of rendering those illustrations legible?

Thanks in anticipation of the usual unstinted guidance and help.

Derek.
