Electric seat wiring problem
The pic below is from the drivers electric seat I bought, the motors and heating elements worked when it was removed from the car.
I have identified the 4 wires going from the motors and heating elements to the plug socket as in the pic below. I have wired them up and have put a multimeter across the 4 socket cavities and they read as identified. 1/ Orange/Green = motors ignition + 2/ Black = motors - 3/ Orange/White = seat elements ignition + 4 Yellow seat elements - from the switch I have wired them up, but none of the motors are working in either seat. How can none of the motors work in either seat, have I missed something. Larger pic of under seat

Dave.
I have re checked the wiring, I have gone by actual pin nubers as you stated, that also correspond with the wiring diagram. Yet the motors in both seats do not work. What does the yellow relay type unit is do, is it anything to do with reversing the polarity for the motors. If the loom was chopped though by a numpty with the battery connected could it have done anything to this yellow relay. All the lad at the yard said was "I remember having to fit a battery to move the seats back & forth to get the bolts out". Am going to hack into the wiring loom and connect the motors direct Also, what is the thin cable for that is attached to the rear of the seat sub frame. I took the supply from the fusebox, and jumped from pass seat to drivers seat.

Stephen,
I don't know the history to this. Are you trying to fit electric seats to a car which originally had manual seats? If so, have you bought memory or non-memory seats? I can have a look at the circuit diagram once I know. Simon.

Hi, with those relays, you have an early seat. They (or at least passenger) only operate with ignition on. I think if the driver is memory, it will operate ignition on, or if the door is open (signal from kbus).
The heated seat supply wire is also used to switch the relay on to make the motors work. So you need ign on this before they work. The heated seat is actually switched to ground via the yellow, not supplied on this wire. So you need power on both orange wires, but not permanently as you will get a flat battery from the relay current drain. |

All this makes me wonder, do you think my electric memory seats are heated and I just need to get the switches fitted in the dash? They were not original to my car but I did wonder if all elec mem seats ahould be heated?

Many thanks Simon, I have the wiring diagram, and I wired them correctly, that was the problem

All working perfectly, I did not connect the heated switch + at the box because i had no switch plugs yet, as lowedb pointed out the supply to ther motors and the elements need to be live to run the relay. huge thanks to Greeners & lowedb for the help. Oh and trebor for the diagram and the weak coffee with not enough sugar
