Default Replacing the Alternator on a Diesel

Hi Chaps, broke down today or should I say couldn't start so I called out Green Flag and he said my Alternator needed replacing. I have put a wanted on the other forum for an replacement but can someone tell me the easy way (if there is one) of removing the Alternator. Can it be done without removing the rad for example. I have this week off so need to do it asap so mobile for work on the 7th Sept. I have looked in the How to's section but didnt see anything. Please help. Paul

Hi Chaps, it was quite easy to take the alternator off without too much dismantling. No removal of the rad or such like just abit fiddly as all done from below with the car on axle stands. Anyway, waiting for a new alternator to arrive and it will go back together tomorrow. Discovered more expense along the way though, as I loosened the nut on the battery negative the turret broke off so now I have had to order a new battery too. In a nutshell, remove under tray, slacken AC belt, take bolts off Black coolent pipe and pull it back under the sump. Remove 3 bolts from AC unit, remove AC bracket and pull it to one side (Left). Now slacken alternator belt using a 24 mm spanner (I had to walk up road and buy one). Unclip wires from alternator plus big wire with 13 mm nut and then undo the 3 bolts holding the alternator and it dropped out from the bottom. One other thing I did was to remove the drivers side wheel arch plastic cover to make it easier to get at the tensioner for the belts. I also took the front bumper off but I didnt need to but I will replace the intercooler rings now its off plus clean EGR. Thats about it so if you need a 'how to' written up I will once back together. Only have a really cheap camera so pictures would be too blurred, so words only. Paul
