Default Reverse gear gone (auto)

My 75 has given me an early Christmas surprise by losing its reverse gear, not fun pushing one of these heavy cars out of a parking space in a busy car park, thankfully one kind Gent offered to help push.

Any ideas as to why it's suddenly lost reverse?

Have a look at the second link in the first reply above, you can do it yourself, but I believe Sussex Transmissions were used by 1 member and the total was in the region of £300. It was a while ago and I may be misquoting so best to ring around really.

If you do decide to do it yourself or need the parts for your mechanic I have a complete kit I purchased for mine early this year but didn't need to use. The kit cost me over £130 if I remember rightly. I'd let it go for £60 plus postage from Essex. It has the reverse piston and new friction plates etc.
Just message me when & if you decide you want it.

Regards Peter

Dan,

As has been said, the reverse piston can be replaced with the uprated type without removing the gearbox from the car (a few members have done it). However I suspect that you will struggle to find a commercial organisation prepared to do this, but it would be worth a try.

This is my worry with my auto box, reading the post above though makes me feel a little better as I know my mate would happily fix it without removing the box if I asked him to.

Thread moved to a more appropriate forum. Re-direct left in old. This may be the better forum as threads get ‘lost’ very quickly in the General Forum.

Unhappy

Update - So far I've found no one willing to work on it in my area.

The work needed is beyond my skills as a mechanic unfortunately, Looks like I might have to sell it.
