towing link kit YMZ000150
I know there are numerous threads on towing electrics and people ( including myself ) have been confused when they have bought a towing electrics kit and it doesnt do the complete job.
this is what the towing link kit looks like ( Ive bought another so I can put my towing bracket on black olive) the rover electrics kit only goes as far as the fusebox location and terminates ina 3 pin connector. this kit completes the installation. there are two wires in the 3 pin connector, green and green pink, terminated in connector pins. one goes across the car into the Light switch module, presumably to notify the IPK if there is a problem with the trailer connection. the other goes into the fusebox, and along with the supplied fuse takes a supply to the back of the car ( dont know what for). now for the clever bit. there is a heavy guage orange/slate wire that runs from the engine fusebox to inside the car. the link kit contains a purple connector module that the wire ( terminated in a spade) plugs into, this in turn plugs into a connector in the rear of the engine bay fusebox. in the car the other end of the wire is terminated in a pin that goes in the three pin connector- this powers the towing relay up. all in all MGR did a good job provisioning for the towing electrics.

Hi Steve
Wondered what was in that kit! I'm about to buy the removable hitch tow bar kit for my 75 but am not sure if i "need" electrics. I only want it for occasional daylight hours use (trips to tip with a little trailer and hiring a car trailer to bring my Dad's MGBGTV8 down). Do i need electrics? Maybe a daft question but I wondered if there was some law I don't know about

keep your eyes open on ebay- the towing electrics kits come up occasionally- a lot cheaper than X part and a doddle to fit, the link kit is only a fiver via x part so doesnt break the bank

You only need the link kit - of which there are two depending on commission number - if you have a later car. My tourer was produced Sept 01 and did not need a link kit. However, have bought them in case I change cars in which case the loom will come out.
