Tailgate Cladding
I have finally found a royal blue cladding to replace my cracked one. It is this piece:
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-DGT100030LML I think the old one will just 'pop' out nd the new one will 'pop' in. Given I'm not very patient or skilled I was hoping that a kind member will confirm that it is that easy or just give me any pointers This will be the first of many small improvements now I have reinvigorated my interest! Thanks all |

You will have to remove all the lower interior trim from the tailgate and then you will have to undo all the nuts that hold the outer trim. About one hours work. Have you tried one of the traders on here or a scrapyard for a trim ready painted in the correct colour. Usually you can buy a complete tailgate, without glass for half the money you are paying Rimmers. Dave T |

The one I have found is the one off of a breaking car, was just offering the rimmers link so people knew exactly which bit it was that is being replaced.
Not sure I fancy stripping out the inside of the tailgate, is it easy? Will I need a haynes manual to do it? |

It's not a hard job. The inside trim comes off with a few torx screws inside the triangle holder panel...then the rest is just press studded on (door panel type).
the you will have about 7 or so 8mm (might be 10mm)... nuts to undo. DO NOT try to just pull it off......you will break it. |

The plastic where the tailgate glass shuts on is a little loose, any idea how I can sort that? |

Done!
Thanks all for your help with this! Job was actually a lot easier than I thought and a few of the door trim pop things were broke so replaced them and tidied up a few loose cables and doesn't seem to rattle so much now either, bonus!

Tailgate outer trim removal
Hi
Am new here. Removing the outer tailgate trim panel on a facelift 2004 ZT-T. Not quite as easy as the Haynes manual would suggest. Firstly 2 of the nuts that need to be undone are spinning the bolt and cannot get a grip on the small bolt end so they will need to be dremmeled off. 2 questions. 1/ Apart from the bolts the panel is secured by, there are a lot of yellow pronged fasteners. Does one knock these out from the inside or pull the panel from the outside. When I tried pulling a corner where the nut had undone the fastener parted company with the panel because the yellow prongy thing is very tight 2/ When the panel does eventually come off are the captive bolts I destroyed easily replaced? Thanks Simon |
