I do apologise Stocktake. You did suggest laquer first, I'll give you that but Kipper has tried and tested it and it has worked. I had thought about laquer before my original post but wasn't sure and had hoped that there might be a product that was made specifically for this job. As usual though, help is always on hand here at the best club in the world and I really appreciate everyone's help and advice, so thanks to all but a big thank you to Stocktake and Kipper! If anyone has any different ideas on protecting that lovely chrome that we all love then keep them coming....
